Obverse: Diademed head right, with the features of Mithradates VI of Pontos
Reverse: ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩΣ ΑΡΙΑΡΑΘΟΥ ΕΥΣΕΒΟΥΣ. Athena standing facing, head left, Nike right in right hand, resting left hand on grounded shield, spear leaning against arm; ΠOΙ monogram in inner left field, Δ (date) in exergue.
Excellent coin, very few circullated, in EF/EF+ condition, conserving absolutely full details in both sides, bold reliefs and high quality silver. Besides the coin looks quite better in hand than in the photo (really!)
Modern scholars consider than the coins struck in Eusebeia-Mazaka (mint A) in the years 97 and 96 BC carry a portrait of Mithradates VI, king of Pontus, instead of his son, the cappadocian king Ariarathes IX, whose name appears in the reverse legend.
SNG von Aulock 6305. Eusebeia-Mazaka mint, year 4 = 96 BC. 4,0 g - 19 mm
