Bare head of Otto I of Bavaria, King of Greece, right., Legend within a wreath of two laurel branches., Medal graded NGC MS 60. Of the highest rarity, created for the commemoration of the death of Otto I of Greece in 1862. Engraved by the German engraver Karl Friedrich Voigt (1800-1874) in 1871. A slight scratch under the portrait's chin with light marks on the lower end. Cleaning micro-scratches are visible in fields. A slight flat spot in the king's hair. Very pleasing appearance, with mirror fields surrounding a portrait and a legend with a more matte/satin finish, giving a splendid rendering. A medal of great prestige, probably distributed to a person in very high position. Only two specimens are known today, including this one. Ex Dix Noonans Webb, Auction 138, 12-2016, n° 3399. The other example was sold by Fritz Rudolf Künker (Auction 400, lot 487). Karamitsos 402 = this example., OΘΩN BAΣIΛEΥΣ THΣ EΛΛAΔOΣ (Otto King of the Hellenes), ΕΙΣ ΜΝΗΜΗΝ (In Memoriam) NGC certificate number: 5778829-005
