In the 7th Century BC Greek art evolves. Contacts through trade with Egypt and the Near Eastern cultures were the driving factor. Through these influences Greek art becomes more naturalistic. From just geometric patterns, representations start to evolve to include humans, gods and animals. Still very crude, but with an endearing liveliness and joyousness.
Of course coins were very much a part of this cultural advancement. They provide us with some of the best preserved and complete images made by these Archaic artists.
