50th Congress of the Belgian Society of Urology – Vesalius Commemorative (1985)
This commemorative medal was issued in 1985 to mark the 50th Congress of the Société Belge d'Urologie (Belgian Society of Urology), held on 8–9 June 1985. The obverse pays tribute to Andreas Vesalius, the pioneering 16th-century anatomist from Brussels.
Obverse:
An anatomical illustration of the male pelvic region, including vascular and urogenital structures, based on one of the woodcut plates from De Humani Corporis Fabrica (1543), Vesalius’s groundbreaking work on human anatomy.
Latin legend around the edge:
“DE HUMANI CORPORIS FABRICA LIBER V. – MDXLIII – ANDREAE VESALII BRVXELLENSIS”
