Historical context:
Struck in 1908, this medal commemorates Albert Grisar (1808–1869), a notable opera composer from Antwerp. Known for his comic operas and contributions to the Parisian and Belgian musical scene, Grisar remained a figure of civic pride in Antwerp. This medal was awarded during a festival organized by the permanent city committee (“Bestendig Festival Stad Antwerpen”) to honor his centenary. The obverse is the work of Jef Baetes, while the reverse was engraved by M. Vermeiren.
