Cross-shaped medal with central medallion bearing conjoined busts of Christian IX and Queen Louise facing right. Around: “KONG CHRISTIAN IX DRONNING LOUISE”.
On the arms of the cross:
“MED / GUD / FOR / KONGE OG RET”
(“With God for King and Justice”) – the traditional Danish royal motto.
Reverse:
Within central medallion:
“ERINDRING / 1892”
(“In Remembrance / 1892”). The cross arms are otherwise undecorated.
Historical context:
This commemorative cross was issued in 1892 to mark the 50th wedding anniversary of King Christian IX and Queen Louise of Hesse-Kassel, married in 1842. Christian IX was known as the "Father-in-law of Europe" due to the dynastic marriages of his children into many European royal houses.
