Historical Context
This medal commemorates the restoration of Maximilian II Emanuel to his hereditary lands and his reinstatement as Elector of Bavaria following the end of his exile after the War of the Spanish Succession. Originally designed by renowned medallists Philipp Heinrich Müller (obverse) and Georg Wilhelm Vestner (reverse), this example is a later strike in base metal, likely intended for collectors or institutional display. The richly allegorical reverse celebrates the divine sanction of his return to power around 1715.
