Visiting token (jeton de visite) struck for the Exposition Universelle de Liège in 1905, designed by Alphonse Michaux and produced by the Royal Mint of Belgium.

Obverse

An allegorical female figure representing Reward stands before a seated worker or miner holding a pickaxe, presenting him with a branch. An industrial landscape with factory buildings and chimneys appears in the background.

This visiting token was struck and sold at the stand of the Royal Mint of Belgium in the central gallery of the Belgian section of the 1905 Liège Universal Exposition. The tokens were produced there using an Uhlhorn-type coining press installed by the Mennig company.

The dates 1830–1905 commemorate the 75th anniversary of Belgian independence. The portraits of Leopold I and Leopold II link the foundation of the Belgian monarchy with the reigning king at the time of the exhibition.

This is the copper-nickel variety of the type; a brass version is also known.
