This is an extremely RARE in a high grade so-called "Reisetaler" of August the Younger of Brunswick-Wolfenbutten (1604-1666). Also so-called "Travel Taler" or "Journey Taler" this magnificent coin received its nickname because of the unusual reverse design showing a traveler or pilgrim near ships and a harbor scene. This talers also sometimes called as "Schiffstaler"or "Ship Taler" as well. It is believed that this type of taler came from August's extensive travels through the seas of Western and Southern Europe before He became a ruler. There are many arguments about a date of this coin was issued as well as a meaning of the coin but with the motto "Everything with caution" and latin "Lacta Est Alea" (The Die Is Cast) it is possible that the August had a philosophical view of life as a journey which needs to be prepared carefully and once the journey begins, the fate takes over. Either way this coin is a unique collectible gem, TOP POP and the ONLY ONE graded per PCGS (of course!).
