The pragmatic sanction of 1713 entailed that from that point onwards, the Habsburgian throne would be inheritable by both sons and daughters; put forth by Emperor Charles VI after only having female heirs. After his death in 1740, Maria Theresa was thus set to become ruler of the Habsburgian lands. However, several German and other central European powers (depicted on the reverse) saw their opportunity and prevented her from assuming the throne, starting the Austrian war of Succesion. This medal has been produced somewhere in the Austrian Netherlands by an unknown artist. With antique nineteenth century coin ticket.
