Frederick II 'the Great' is perhaps best remembered as a military king; his bureacratic and military reforms revolutionized warfare in the eigthteenth century and made Prussia into the largest power of Europe. In 1757 he launched a campaign to capture Bohemia and won several battles against the Austrians and French; one of those was near Roßbach, where through tactical genius, Frederick managed to defeat the combined armies of France and Austria with a much smaller force. The origin of this medal is unknown as it is unsigned, but given the fabric might have been produced in the (southern) Netherlands.
