This is a 5 cent coin from the Marianne series, minted in France in 1984. This coin comes from a Fleur de Coin (FDC) set, which indicates that it is in exceptional condition, having hardly circulated and exhibiting an original shine.
The coin is made of bronze-aluminum. It weighs 3 grams and its diameter is 20 millimeters. The edge of the coin is smooth.
The obverse of the coin depicts the left profile of Marianne, facing the wind and wearing the Phrygian cap, a symbol of the French Revolution and the Republic. The inscription "REPUBLIQUE FRANÇAISE" is engraved around the portrait. The engraver's signature, LAGRIFFOUL, also appears on this face.
The reverse of the coin features an ear of wheat and an olive branch, symbols of agriculture and peace. The Republican motto "LIBERTE - EGALITE - FRATERNITE" is inscribed around the face value "5 CENTIMES". The engraver's signature, A.DIEUDONNE, is also present. The various mint marks surround the face value.
Marianne, an allegorical figure of the French Republic, is an important symbol of the nation. Her image is often used on French coins, as well as on stamps and other national symbols. Coins from the Marianne series are common examples of French numismatics and are often sought after by collectors for their historical and symbolic value.
