This banknote is an issue from Djibouti, with a face value of 100 francs. It is an overprint applied to a banknote originally issued in Papeete, Tahiti. The indicated issue date is January 2, 1920, and it belongs to the V.5 series.
The front of the banknote features a brown print, enhanced with serial numbers in black. A red overprint stands out under the name of the bank, positioned in the center of the banknote. The visual composition includes two elongated female figures, accompanied by an ox (Bos taurus) and a tiger (Panthera tigris) in the lower part. Columns adorned with elephants (Loxodonta sp.) frame the scene, standing on the left and right. The text is written in French, Arabic, and Amharic. There are legal notices concerning counterfeiting, as well as the name of the issuing banking institution, the Banque de l'Indochine. The signatures of the cashier, an administrator, and the managing director are also present. The names of the engravers and designers, A. Bramtot, G. Duval, and Ch. Wullschleger, are inscribed at the bottom of the banknote.
The back of the banknote is also printed in brown. The central motif is a circle, completed by squares arranged in the corners. The text, in French, warns against counterfeiting banknotes, referring to article 139 of the Penal Code. The name of the Banque de l'Indochine is also mentioned. The names of the designers and engraver are the same as on the front.
The watermark represents a woman's head. The dimensions of the banknote are 206 mm in length and 118 mm in width.
