The 100 cedis banknote issued by the Bank of Ghana on March 4, 2022, bearing the serial number AS, is an example of contemporary Ghanaian fiat currency. The obverse of the banknote features a composition of historical figures and national symbols.
It features portraits of six prominent figures in Ghanaian history: Kwame Nkrumah, Ebenezer Ako-Adjei, Edward Akufo-Addo, Joseph Boakye Danquah, Emmanuel Obetsebi-Lamptey and William Ofori Atta, arranged on the right side of the banknote. In the center, the Independence Arch is depicted, a strong symbol of Ghana's autonomy and sovereignty. The national coat of arms is positioned in the lower center, while a star is visible on the left side.
The inscriptions on the obverse include the name of the issuing institution, BANK OF GHANA, the face value of GH¢100, and a legal statement indicating that the banknote is legal tender for any amount. The national motto, FREEDOM AND JUSTICE, is also inscribed.
The reverse of the banknote highlights the Parliament of Ghana, located in the center left. The face value, ONE HUNDRED CEDIS, is repeated, accompanied by the name of the issuing bank and the face value in currency symbols, GH¢100.
