The 1 boliviano banknote, issued by the Banco Central de Bolivia in 1952, belongs to the series defined by the law of July 20, 1928. It is the second issue printed by Waterlow & Sons.

On the obverse, the banknote features a dominant brown color scheme. It depicts a portrait of Simón Bolívar, a central figure in Bolivian independence and other South American nations. The inscriptions in Spanish read: "LA PAZ, LEY DE 20 DE JULIO DE 1928", referring to the law that frames this issue. You can also read "EL BANCO CENTRAL DE BOLIVIA PAGARÁ AL PORTADOR A LA VISTA UN BOLIVIANO EN ORO O GIROS-ORO", meaning that the Central Bank of Bolivia will pay the bearer, on sight, one boliviano in gold or gold equivalent.

The reverse of the banknote is printed in blue tones. The national emblem of Bolivia occupies the center of the banknote, flanked by the value "UN BOLIVIANO" on either side. The mention "BANCO CENTRAL DE BOLIVIA" is also present. The name of the printer, "WATERLOW & SONS LTD., LONDON", also appears on the reverse, identifying the British company responsible for printing this banknote.

The dimensions of this banknote are 115 mm in length and 60 mm in width.
