Mao Zedong, often referred to simply as "Mao", was a Chinese politician and revolutionary leader. Born on December 26, 1893, and died on September 9, 1976, Mao is famous for being the founder and leader of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) and for establishing the People's Republic of China in 1949.

He became the de facto leader of China after the Communists' victory in the Chinese Civil War, establishing a communist regime and assuming the role of Chairman of the People's Republic of China and Chairman of the Chinese Communist Party.

Under Mao's rule, China underwent vast political, economic, and social reforms, including the Great Leap Forward and the Cultural Revolution. However, these initiatives were also accompanied by major upheavals, political repression, and tragic famines, causing the deaths of millions of people.

Despite these controversies, Mao Zedong is still considered an emblematic figure in modern Chinese history. His influence on 20th-century China, his doctrine of Marxism-Leninism adapted to the Chinese reality, and his vision of communism have left a profound mark on the country and on the global political scene.
