The 5 North Korean won banknote, dated 2002 but issued in 2009, features distinct visual characteristics on both sides.

On the obverse, there is a representation of a man wearing glasses, identified as a professor, alongside a young boy wearing a cap, symbolizing a student. The composition includes inscriptions in the Hangeul language, specifying the issuing institution, namely the Central Bank of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea. The date of issue, mentioned according to the Juche calendar as Juche 91 2002, is also present, followed by the face value of the banknote, which is five won.

The reverse of the banknote illustrates a hydroelectric dam, highlighting the importance of energy and industry in the country. Inscriptions in Hangeul reiterate the name of the Central Bank of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, as well as the face value of five won.

The banknote incorporates a watermark depicting a Siebold's magnolia, adding an element of security and authenticity. Its dimensions are 145 mm in length and 65 mm in width. It is important to note that, although dated 2002, this banknote was put into circulation in 2009, in connection with the monetary reform undertaken that year.
