This banknote is a French assignat with a face value of five livres, issued on 10 Brumaire of Year II (October 31, 1793) under the First Republic. It is part of a numbered series, here series 22355, and bears the printed signature of Duclos.
The obverse of the assignat features several distinctive elements. In the center, the face value "5" is highlighted. The date of issue is clearly indicated, and the national motto "Unité Indivisibilité de la République, Liberté Egalité Fraternité ou la Mort" is inscribed. There is also the legal notice warning of sanctions against counterfeiting, as well as a promise of reward for those who denounce counterfeiters.
The reverse of the note is blank, serving as a background for the watermark integrated into the paper. This watermark represents the value "5" as well as the monogram "RF" (République Française) inscribed in a circle.
The dimensions of the assignat are 94 mm in length and 59 mm in width. A blind stamp is affixed to the lower left of the note. This stamp, with a diameter of 26 mm, represents the Genius of the Constitution seated. It is supported on the right by a statue of Artemis, symbol of Nature, and on the left by the Tables of the Law, where one can read "DROIT DE L'HOM". This blind stamp was engraved by GATTEAUX.
It should be noted that the total number of series for this type of assignat amounts to 28744, with around a hundred different signatories.
