This is a sheet comprising ten assignats of five livres, issued on 10 Brumaire of Year II of the French Republic, corresponding to October 31, 1793. Each assignat is identifiable by its belonging to series 22355.
The obverse of each assignat features the face value, "cinq Livres" (five livres), placed in the center. The date of issue is also mentioned. The national motto of the time is present: "Unité Indivisibilité de la République, Liberté Egalité Fraternité ou la Mort" (Unity Indivisibility of the Republic, Liberty Equality Fraternity or Death). Legal inscriptions are present, including a warning against counterfeiting, punishable by death, and a promise of reward for those who denounce counterfeiters.
The reverse of the assignat is blank. A watermark is integrated into the paper, displaying the value "5" and the monogram "RF" (République Française - French Republic) inscribed in a circle.
The dimensions of each assignat are 94 mm in length and 59 mm in width. A blind stamp, measuring 26 mm in diameter, is affixed to the bottom left of each assignat. This stamp represents the Genius of the Constitution seated, leaning to the right on the statue of Artemis, symbol of Nature, and to the left on the Tables of the Law, where one can read "DROIT DE L'HOM" (Rights of Man). This blind stamp was engraved by GATTEAUX.
It should be noted that the issue of these assignats extends over 28744 different series, with the involvement of 100 different signatories, whose names are printed on the assignats.
