This French 10 Francs commemorative coin, minted in 1982, pays tribute to Léon Gambetta on the centenary of his death (1882-1982). It comes from a BU (Brilliant Uncirculated) set, indicating superior minting quality and meticulous preservation.
The coin's composition is copper-aluminum-nickel. It weighs 10 grams and has a diameter of 26 millimeters. The edge is smooth, without inscriptions or motifs.
The obverse of the coin features a hot air balloon rising above flags. The face value of "10 FRANCS" is clearly indicated. There is also the inscription "RÉPUBLIQUE FRANÇAISE" as well as the motto "LIBERTÉ ÉGALITÉ FRATERNITÉ" arranged on three lines. Various symbols and the year "1982" complete the design. The engraver's signature, Émilie Rousseau, does not appear on this side.
The reverse of the coin features a left profile of Léon Gambetta. A circular legend identifies him with the inscription "LÉON GAMBETTA" framed by the dates "1838-1882". The initials "ER" of the engraver Émilie Rousseau are discreetly placed at the nape of the represented character's neck.
This coin is part of a series dedicated to Léon Gambetta. It constitutes a numismatic testimony of the tribute paid to this French political figure of the 19th century.
