Make an offer

The 500 francs Pascal banknote belongs to one of the most iconic series in 20th-century French numismatics. Issued in 1975, this banknote from the C.50 series was put into circulation by the Banque de France and stands as an important testament to French post-war monetary history.

The central figure depicted on this banknote is Blaise Pascal (1623-1662), a French mathematician, physicist, philosopher and theologian, whose portrait adorns the obverse of the note. This series, commonly known as the "Pascal" series, was first introduced in 1968 and remained in circulation until new banknotes were introduced in the 1990s, before being definitively withdrawn at the time of the transition to the euro in 2002.

The obverse of the banknote features the portrait of Blaise Pascal, accompanied by representations evoking his scientific work, most notably the arithmetic machine he designed. The reverse presents graphic elements related to his intellectual and scientific legacy. The dominant colours of the banknote revolve around green and brown tones, characteristic of the Banque de France's graphic production for this denomination. The banknote also incorporates security features typical of the era, including a watermark and intaglio printing, techniques that at the time guaranteed the authenticity of the monetary document.

The face value of 500 francs represented a significant denomination in the French monetary system of the time. This banknote, subject to French law, bears the mandatory legal inscriptions of the Banque de France as well as the signatures of the officials in office at the time of its issue. The C.50 series makes it possible to precisely identify the production batch to which this example belongs, essential information for collectors and specialists wishing to rigorously date and classify this type of fiduciary document.
