Series: Heroes and Mythological Creatures
This superb 5 euro commemorative coin issued by Portugal in 2025 is part of the 'Heroes and Mythological Creatures' series. It pays tribute to the phoenix, a legendary bird symbolizing rebirth, immortality, and renewal.
On the obverse, the inscription 'PORTUGAL 2025' appears, accompanied by a stylized representation of the phoenix, the work of designer Ana Biscaia, whose contemporary and expressive style highlights the symbolic power of the creature.
The reverse features the face value '5 €', as well as the inscriptions 'CASA DA MOEDA' and 'ana biscaia', confirming the creation and minting by the Mint of Portugal.
The coin is struck in cupronickel (alloy 75% copper / 25% nickel), weighing 14 g and with a diameter of 30 mm. Its edge is reeded, giving a neat and elegant finish to this modern example inspired by mythology.
