The Monnaie de Paris issued in 2014 a 10-euro silver coin in Belle Épreuve finish, commemorating the FIFA 2014 Football World Cup, held in Brazil. This issue is part of the French tradition of striking commemorative coins on the occasion of major international sporting events.
The coin is struck in silver with a fineness of 900‰, corresponding to a high-quality alloy composed of 90% silver. It has a weight of 22.2 grams and a diameter of 37 millimetres, dimensions characteristic of commemorative coins of this type, offering a generous striking surface to highlight the details of the depicted designs.
The Belle Épreuve finish denotes a superior level of quality in coin manufacturing, characterised by a matte relief on a brilliant background, achieved through particular care taken during striking. This process gives the coin a refined aesthetic appearance, clearly distinguishing the different planes of the composition.
This coin was struck at workshop A, corresponding to the Paris mint, identifiable by the mint mark present on the coin. The face value is 10 euros, giving it legal tender status in France and the eurozone.
The mintage is limited to 10,000 specimens, making it a coin with restricted distribution. This low number of produced specimens is characteristic of the commemorative issues of the Monnaie de Paris, which strives to maintain a certain exclusivity for its precious metal productions.
The FIFA 2014 World Cup took place in Brazil from 12 June to 13 July 2014, an event to which this coin pays tribute through its iconographic theme dedicated to international football.
