Both sides retain sharp medieval style and strong silver surfaces with darker toning in the recesses.
Historical context: Dokkum (medieval Doggingun) was an important Frisian mint and ecclesiastical centre in the northern Low Countries. Egbert II’s coinage continues the regional tradition of naming the ruler on the obverse and the mint — often with local patron saints — on the reverse. Saints Simon and Judas (Jude) were the patrons associated with Dokkum; their facing busts with the small cross above are the hallmark of this type. Frisian denars of this period circulated widely along North Sea trade routes linking the Low Countries, northern Germany, and Scandinavia.
