Historical background: After the collapse of the Livonian Order (1561), Riga briefly asserted itself as a free city before Polish overlordship settled in. The 1560s schillings with castle and city arms reflect this transitional civic coinage tied to both Latvian and Polish collecting interests.

Rev.: Coat of arms of Riga divides date (15)6-9; *MONETA·NO·ARGE.
