Obverse:
Laureate bust of Leopold II facing left. Around: “LEOPOLD II ROI DES BELGES”. Signed below truncation: “H.F.”. Suspended from an ornate royal crown clasp in high relief.
Reverse:
At the top, the Belgian coat of arms supported by lions and flanked by flags and trumpets. Motto: “L'UNION FAIT LA FORCE” (Unity Makes Strength).
At center, within a richly decorated wreath of musical instruments, foliage, a book, and a painter’s palette:
“CERCLE ST. LOUIS / ~~~ / INAUGURATION / DE LA NOUVELLE / SALLE DES FÊTES / 25 9BRE / 1894”
(25 November 1894, using the historical abbreviation “9bre” for Novembre.)

This commemorative medal was issued on the occasion of the inauguration of a new festive hall by the Cercle Saint-Louis, a Belgian cultural and social organization. The reverse design highlights the artistic, musical, and educational mission of the institution through a wealth of symbolic elements. The obverse features a finely detailed portrait of King Leopold II, engraved by the Belgian medallist Hart (signed “H.F.”).
