The Kasai company was founded on 24 December 1901 by decree of King Leopold II of Belgium. It had its administrative headquarters in Brussels and its headquarters in Dima, Congo. The main objective of the Kasai company was to exploit the resources of the Kasai River basin in the Congo Free State. At first it was mainly involved in harvesting wild rubber, but later moved into palm oil, ivory and mining.
