 The Vatican commemorates this year the fiftieth anniversary of the death of Padre Pio. Pope Francis, on a pastoral visit to San Giovanni Rotondo last March, highlighted the legacy left by the Saint of Pietrelcina: prayer groups, the House of Relief from Suffering, and the confessional. 

 This heritage evokes for the Holy Father prayer, smallness, and wisdom of life. We must pray like Saint Pio - says the Pope - never tire because we cannot know the Father without opening ourselves to praise without dedicating time to Him alone without worshiping. Like the Capuchin brother, lean on the wounds of our neighbor and overcome the culture of waste because Jesus also favored the little ones. In people full of themselves, in fact, there is no room for God. Finally, like Padre Pio, fight evil with wisdom: through humility, through obedience, through the cross, by offering one's pain out of love.
