This Australian 20 Dollar polymer banknote was issued in 2016. It is part of a series commemorating Mary Reibey and John Flynn.
The front of the banknote features a portrait of Mary Reibey in the center. Mary Reibey, born in 1777 and died in 1855, was an Australian businesswoman and philanthropist of British origin. She is particularly known for her exceptional journey, going from a conviction for theft to a respected figure in colonial society. To the right of Mary Reibey's portrait, there is a representation of the sailing ship "Mercury". Latin inscriptions also appear on this side of the note, indicating the face value, the country of issue and the mention "Legal tender throughout Australia".
The back of the banknote highlights John Flynn in the center. John Flynn, born in 1880 and died in 1951, was an Australian Presbyterian minister, famous for founding the Royal Flying Doctor Service, a vital air medical service for isolated communities in the Australian outback. To the left of Flynn's portrait, there is a representation of the aircraft "L. M. Pattinson", a symbol of aviation and its role in the development of air medical services in Australia. As on the front, Latin inscriptions are present, identifying the person and the institution. The banknote was printed by Note Printing Australia.
The date of issue of the banknote is integrated into the serial number, with the first two digits indicating the year.
