Egypt, Antaiopolite nome, Hadrian, AE obol c. AD 126-7, regnal year 11, his laurate bust right/Antaios (Netjerui) standing right, holding spear and crocodile. 19 mm, 4.38 g.
Antaiopolis was at the site of modern Qaw el-Kebir, Asyut Governorate, in Upper Egypt. The local deity was Antaios, whose Egyptian name may have been Netjerui (the phonology is uncertain due to the obscurity of the hieroglyphs), and who had attributes of both Seth and Horus, while sometimes being depicted solely as a crocodile.
about very fine, some red deposit. Rare and a nice clear example.
