Geslagen ter herinnering aan de eerste commerciële expeditie naar Brazilië. Deze penning is in de regel geslagen op een veel lager gewicht van rond de 29 gram, zoals de exemplaren in de Zaar collection en de Adam collection. Rosette SIDERE•PROFICIANT•DEXTRO•NEPTVNIA•REGNA (= may the Kingdom of Neptune prosper under fortunate stars) Name of Jehovah in clouds over a scene of shipping, with Neptune riding a sea-monster to left in the foreground. Rev. INSIGNIA FRISIÆ CIS RHENANÆ (= the arms of Frisia on this side of the Rhine) Crowned shield with lion supporters bearing the arms of Frisia around, shields bearing the arms of the cities of Alkmaer, Hoorn, Enckhusen, Medenblick, Edam, Monicedam and Purmerent (each accompanied by the name on an open scroll). Struck to commemorate the first commercial expedition to Brazil. This medal, as catalogued by Betts, is taken to be a precursor for “the Dutch colonies in India, Brazil and St. Thomas” In most cases this medal is struck on a weight of about 29 gram, as in the Zaar collection and the Adam collection.
