The 50 Somaliland Shillings banknote, issued in 2002, features distinct visual characteristics on both sides. Measuring 130 × 58 mm, it offers a glimpse into the culture and geography of this region.
On the front, the banknote showcases the historical "Goodirka" house, a building that once housed the House of Representatives at the time of Somaliland's declaration of independence. Currently, this building serves as the main headquarters of the Supreme Court of Somaliland in Hargeisa. A kudu, a species of African antelope, is also depicted on this side. Inscriptions include "BANKAA SOMALILAND", "KONTON SL SHILIN", and "SOMALILAND 50 SHILLINGS".
The reverse side of the banknote illustrates a camel caravan, featuring two nomads accompanied by three camels. In the background, the Naasa Hablood hills, also known as "girl's breasts", located near Hargeisa, are visible. Inscriptions on this side are "BANKAA SOMALILAND", "FIFTY SOMALILAND SHILLINGS", "KONTON SL SHILIN", and "SOMALILAND 50 SHILLINGS".
This 50 Shilling banknote serves as a medium of exchange while reflecting important elements of Somaliland's history, wildlife, and landscapes.
