This small silvered medal was issued in 1923 to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the reign of Queen Wilhelmina of the Netherlands. It is a typical example of a jubilee souvenir medal, produced for public distribution and commemoration.
Chris van der Hoef (1875–1933) was a Dutch sculptor and medallist associated with the Art Nouveau movement. He created numerous medals and was a founding member of the Dutch Society for Arts and Crafts (V.A.N.K.). In 1928, he won a silver medal in the Olympic art competitions for his design "Médaille pour les Jeux Olympiques". His refined, symbolic style made him a leading figure in early 20th-century Dutch medallic art.
