1892 Bronze Prize Medal – Queen Wilhelmina, by B. van Hove & J.P.M. Menger
Obverse:
Left-facing bust of young Queen Wilhelmina with flowing hair and lace collar. Legend around: "WILHELMINA KONINGIN DER NEDERLANDEN". Signed below: "B. VAN HOVE J.P.M. MENGER".
Reverse:
Crowned oval inscription panel surrounded by elaborate decoration including laurel branches, two heraldic lions, and draped banners. Central field engraved: "24–25 Juni / 1892".
Historical Context:
This prize medal was issued in 1892, during the regency of Queen Emma, for festivities and competitions celebrating Queen Wilhelmina’s early reign. Although Wilhelmina was only 12 years old at the time, she had officially become queen in 1890. This medal was likely awarded during patriotic events or school ceremonies. Listed in Zwierzina 977.
